The History of Things to Come (2006)
Track listing:
Frontline: 3:53
Enzyme: 3:46
Saturday Mourning: 4:29
Ragged: 4:45
The History of
things to come was originally released in August of 2006 with the intent
of acting as an all purpose showcase of my work as Rogue Thief. The
tracks were chosen for their diversity in content and their continuity
in style. Frontline, with it's simple, catchy rhythm and powerful vocals
makes for a good radio single. Enzyme's bitter sentiment and violent
drum track make for an excellent show of the project's gritty, overall
electronic distortion, a factor which has always been the heart and soul
of Rogue Thief. Saturday Mourning, is a melancholy tale of lost
opportunities and resentment at the choices life can grant and is
fuelled by a rich vocal track and powerful chord changes.
Ragged is a
homage piece to both the punk rock and early new wave and industrial
tracks which were the inspiration for Rogue Thief as a whole. All in all
I'm very proud of the EP as a whole and I still use it in my press kits.

In 2007, I
decided that the time had come to put together these tracks which I'd
been working on for the past few years and attempt to market them in
preparation for a new project; kind of "cleaning out the closet" if you
will. N7: Neutral Grey, is a collection of recordings done over the past
few years at different times and on different equipment but all with the
same goal in mind; to create a new, eclectic, gritty, and listener
friendly sound that defines my vision as an artist.
Full Circle is a
vicious and bloodthirsty song about resentment, hatred and the raw
aggression felt toward those who I despise; sort of a "Count of
Monte Cristo" song, if you will. New Jersey is a memory of the
past and of lost friends, family and times which can never be recovered.
Saturday Mourning and Frontline are the same tracks as in the previous
EP, as well as Ragged.
Human Sacrifice is a noise filled fable of a song
reminding the listener of the personal obligation all should have to themselves. In
Gnash, a tense, four and a half minute
angst- fuelled ride through the psyche of a resentful anti-hero, the
point makes itself abundantly clear to even the most shallow listener.
Undertow, one of my personal
favorites, is an abstract song in whose vocals we see a struggle against
the momentum of the rest of the song. Couple this factor in with a loud
drum track and a hell of a lot of high end gain, and the title says
exactly what the song is. Neutral Grey...never have I written a more
autobiographical song in all of my life, an angry, melodic, obsessive
thought drilled out to a drum pattern reminiscent to the echo of
the Thomson gun. In Tuesday, I try to cleanse the pallet with an upbeat
track whose sentiment is somewhat akin to it's predecessors, however
with a more hopeful tone, as if I am not alone in my thought. Finally,
we come to Harbinger....the first track I've ever written on a six-
string and one of my proudest works ever; you have to listen to it to
understand.
